The United States has rejected Iran's claim that two oil tankers exploded after hitting mines in the Strait of Hormuz, describing the allegation as false.
Iran's Revolutionary Guards (IRGC) said the two tankers struck mines in waters south of the strategic waterway and caught fire. The group also warned commercial vessels to avoid entering what it described as a mined area.
Responding to the claim, the US Central Command (CENTCOM) said on X that the allegation was untrue, stating that "like most IRGC claims, this is false."
The IRGC further claimed it had stopped four ships attempting to transit the Strait of Hormuz during a combined missile and drone operation, alleging the vessels were supported by the US military.
The Strait of Hormuz, one of the world's busiest oil shipping routes, has become a major flashpoint as tensions between Iran and the United States continue to escalate. Iran has instructed commercial vessels to use shipping lanes closer to its coastline, while the US has maintained efforts to secure international navigation through the waterway.
Meanwhile, Iranian state media reported that overnight US airstrikes in Hormozgan Province killed three people and injured eight others.
The conflicting claims could not be independently verified, and no confirmed reports have identified the alleged oil tankers or verified that any explosions occurred.
