The United States Consulate in Lagos and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) have commended the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for its efforts in tackling sextortion and other transnational financial crimes.
The commendation came during a courtesy visit by the Assistant Law Enforcement Attaché of the U.S. Consulate, James Smith, and Thomas Pepper to the Acting Zonal Director of EFCC Lagos Zonal Directorate 2, Bawa Usman Kaltungo.
Speaking during the visit, Smith said the meeting was aimed at strengthening the long-standing partnership between the U.S. Consulate and the EFCC, particularly in intelligence sharing and joint efforts to combat crimes involving Nigerians and foreign nationals.
He praised the Commission's success in investigating sextortion and other cyber-enabled financial crimes, noting that closer cooperation would further enhance efforts to tackle cross-border criminal activities.
In his response, Kaltungo thanked the U.S. delegation for the visit and reaffirmed the EFCC's commitment to deepening collaboration with the U.S. Consulate and the FBI.
He assured the delegation that the Commission would continue to work closely with its international partners in intelligence sharing and coordinated operations to combat financial crimes and other transnational offences.
