Two girls abducted by terrorists have regained their freedom after escaping from a terrorist hideout in the Mandara Mountains and were safely reunited with their families in Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno State.
The rescue took place on July 2, 2026, when troops of the 82 Division Task Force Battalion under Operation HADIN KAI, stationed in Ngoshe, spotted the girls during a routine morning patrol near Armuda Bridge.
The victims, identified as 15-year-old Bintu Adamu and 11-year-old Sadiya Jummai, were found stranded and in distress. After confirming they were civilians, the troops secured the surrounding area to rule out any immediate threat before escorting them to safety.
Military sources said preliminary findings showed the girls had been abducted from Ngoshe community and held captive by terrorists at a camp in the Chinene area of the Mandara Mountains. They reportedly took advantage of an opportunity to escape before encountering the military patrol.
The soldiers provided the girls with immediate first aid before handing them over to the Ngoshe community leader, Mallam Bulama Kunda, for reunification with their families.
The rescue highlights the ongoing efforts of Operation HADIN KAI to protect communities and combat terrorist activities in northeastern Nigeria.
