UN Rights Council Orders Probe Into Alleged RSF Abuses in Sudan

The United Nations Human Rights Council has approved a resolution condemning escalating violence by Sudan's paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in al-Obeid and launched an urgent investigation into alleged human rights abuses in the area.

The move comes amid growing international concern over reports that the RSF is massing forces around one of Sudan's largest cities. The United Kingdom warned that without swift action, the situation could deteriorate into large-scale atrocities similar to those witnessed in al-Fashir, North Darfur, last year.

Speaking before the Council, Britain's Human Rights Ambassador, Eleanor Sanders, urged the international community to act quickly to prevent further violence and ensure those responsible for abuses are held accountable. The inquiry is expected to examine allegations of violations committed during the ongoing conflict in Sudan.
