London, United Kingdom – Andy Burnham has officially become the United Kingdom's new prime minister after being invited by King Charles III to form a government, following his victory in the Labour Party leadership contest.
Burnham is the seventh British prime minister in the last 10 years, reflecting a decade of political instability since the Brexit referendum. He succeeds Keir Starmer, who resigned after mounting pressure from within his party and declining public support.
In his first address outside 10 Downing Street, Burnham acknowledged the public's frustration with politics and pledged to restore confidence in government.

Outgoing Prime Minister Keir Starmer formally submitted his resignation to King Charles III before Burnham was sworn in. In his farewell remarks, Starmer wished his successor success and pledged his full support for the new administration.
Burnham now faces the challenge of uniting the country, rebuilding public trust, and delivering on his promises of economic renewal and political stability.
