The United States Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) says the 2026 FIFA World Cup was successfully secured without any major security incident throughout the month-long tournament.
FBI Director Kash Patel made the announcement in a post on X, describing the competition as the largest sporting event in history and the biggest single-event security operation ever carried out by the bureau.
Patel credited President Donald Trump's administration, the FBI, and federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies for ensuring a safe tournament across the 16 host cities.
According to him, nearly 5,000 FBI personnel were deployed from headquarters, field offices, and international offices to support security operations. He added that the agency established several intelligence and coordination centers to monitor threats and share real-time information throughout the competition.
The FBI also launched its first counter-drone training program, which prepared law enforcement officers to respond to aerial threats. Patel revealed that authorities seized more than 700 drones that entered restricted airspace around World Cup venues.
He noted that security agencies also managed several major events held during the same period, including UFC 250, SAIL 250, and State Fair 250, while maintaining a high level of public safety.
Patel praised all partner agencies for their collaboration, saying their combined efforts helped deliver what he described as the safest and most secure FIFA World Cup in history.
