Four Killed, Hundreds Affected as Rainstorm Devastates Sokoto Communities

A powerful rainstorm has claimed the lives of four people and left hundreds of residents affected in Kware Local Government Area of Sokoto State, according to the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA).

The Head of Response, Research and Statistics at NEMA's Sokoto Field Office, Tukur Abubakar, said the agency carried out a damage assessment in the affected communities, including Mallamawa, Mai Mushe, Kaura, Sabon Gari, Rungin Tsamiya, and nearby settlements.

Abubakar said preliminary findings showed that hundreds of households were impacted by the disaster, while several residents sustained injuries. Four fatalities were confirmed.

The assessment also revealed extensive destruction of homes and key public infrastructure, including a primary school and a hospital, underscoring the severity of the storm.

According to NEMA, the assessment was conducted to determine the scale of the damage and identify the urgent humanitarian needs of affected communities. Emergency authorities are expected to continue evaluating the situation and coordinating relief efforts for victims.
