Two United States military personnel have been killed and another reported missing following an Iranian attack in Jordan, according to the U.S. military.
The incident comes as fighting between the United States and Iran continues to escalate after a temporary ceasefire agreement collapsed last week. U.S. Central Command said the casualties occurred on Friday, raising the total number of American service members killed since the conflict began to 16, with more than 420 others injured.
U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth paid tribute to the fallen troops, describing their sacrifice as one that strengthens America's determination.
Meanwhile, Iran's Supreme Leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, accused Washington of violating the ceasefire agreement and warned that the United States would face consequences for escalating the conflict. He also claimed that President Donald Trump's commitments could no longer be trusted.
Iran reportedly launched missile and drone attacks targeting U.S. military facilities and allied locations across the Gulf region, including Jordan, Kuwait and Bahrain. Iranian state media also claimed attacks on military-related sites in Saudi Arabia, although Saudi authorities have not confirmed any strikes.
On the other hand, the U.S. military said it had carried out a seventh consecutive day of airstrikes on Iranian military infrastructure, including surveillance systems, logistics facilities and weapons storage sites. Iranian officials reported casualties and damage to infrastructure in Hormozgan Province, near the strategic Strait of Hormuz.
The ongoing conflict has raised concerns over regional stability and global energy supplies, as both sides continue military operations around the Strait of Hormuz, a vital route for international oil shipments. Oil prices have already climbed amid fears that the fighting could further disrupt global markets.
