Iraq has signed 48 agreements and partnership deals with American companies during Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi's official visit to the United States, marking one of the country's biggest investment initiatives in recent years.
The agreements cover key sectors including oil, electricity, healthcare, technology, and infrastructure. Major US companies involved include ExxonMobil, Chevron, Shell, Halliburton, KBR, GE Vernova, and Starlink.
One of the most significant projects is the reconstruction of the long-abandoned Iraq-Syria crude oil pipeline, which will transport oil from Iraq's Kirkuk region to Syria's Mediterranean port of Baniyas. Once completed, the pipeline is expected to carry up to two million barrels of crude oil per day, providing Iraq with an alternative export route that reduces its dependence on the Strait of Hormuz.
The United States welcomed the initiative, describing the pipeline as a strategic energy corridor that will strengthen regional energy security and expand access to international markets.
In addition to the pipeline project, Chevron signed separate agreements aimed at increasing Iraq's oil production, while Starlink reached a deal to introduce satellite internet services across the country.
According to reports, the initial agreements signed with US companies are valued at more than $60 billion.
Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi said Iraq is committed to attracting foreign investment through an open-door policy, encouraging international companies to invest in the country's economic development.
