Troops Rescue Polytechnic Rector, 22 Others, Arrest Suspected Bandit Informant in Zamfara

Nigerian troops under the Joint Task Force North West, Operation Fansan Yamma, have rescued the Rector of the Federal Polytechnic, Kaura Namoda, Dr. Aminu Yusuf, along with 22 other kidnapping victims during separate security operations in Zamfara State.

According to the military, the operations were launched after distress calls reported attacks by armed bandits in Kaura Namoda Local Government Area.

Military spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja said the attackers stormed the rector's residence on Tsohon-Tasha Street, killing a private security guard and injuring another resident before attempting to kidnap Dr. Yusuf and his family. Troops responded swiftly, engaged the gunmen in a firefight, and forced them to flee, successfully rescuing the rector and his family without injuries.

In another operation, soldiers responded to an attempted kidnapping in Tungan Dorawa community, Barkeji Village. Despite the challenging terrain, the troops pursued the fleeing bandits and foiled the attack.

The military also rescued a prominent businessman, Alhaji Azaria, and 21 other residents after another group of bandits attempted to abduct them from nearby homes.

During the operations, troops arrested a 45-year-old man, Falalu Yusuf, who is suspected of providing intelligence and logistical support to the attackers. He has been handed over to the appropriate authorities for further investigation.

Operation Fansan Yamma reaffirmed its commitment to intensifying operations against armed groups across Zamfara and the wider North-West, assuring residents that efforts to restore peace and improve security in the region will continue.
