Thousands of demonstrators marched through central London on Saturday in support of Palestinians, calling on incoming UK Prime Minister Andy Burnham to adopt a tougher stance on Israel's military campaign in Gaza.
The protesters urged Burnham, who is expected to officially take office on Monday, to impose an arms embargo on Israel and increase diplomatic efforts to end the conflict and humanitarian crisis in Gaza.
The rally, organised by pro-Palestinian groups, featured speeches from Palestinian Ambassador to the UK Husam Zomlot and former Labour Party leader Jeremy Corbyn. Participants carried Palestinian flags and banners while demanding greater accountability and a change in Britain's Middle East policy.
Speaking during the demonstration, Zomlot said international calls for justice and accountability have continued to grow as the conflict enters its fourth year.
Corbyn also addressed the crowd, urging the incoming government to end what he described as Britain's complicity in the Gaza conflict and to adopt policies that promote peace and justice.
Burnham is expected to face several domestic and international challenges after taking office, including the UK's economic pressures, housing shortages, and growing public debate over the country's foreign policy toward the Israel-Gaza conflict.
The demonstration remained peaceful as thousands of people marched through the capital, highlighting continued public concern over the humanitarian situation in Gaza.
