At least eight Palestinians were killed on Saturday after Israeli forces struck residential neighborhoods in Gaza City, according to medical officials and local reports.
An airstrike destroyed an apartment building in the al-Nasr neighborhood, killing five people and injuring several others. Rescue teams continued searching through the rubble for possible survivors, with officials warning that the death toll could rise.
In a separate attack, Israeli artillery shelling hit the nearby al-Zeitoun district, killing three more people. Witnesses said the strikes caused significant damage in densely populated civilian areas.
The Israeli military confirmed that it carried out operations across Gaza. The attacks come despite a US-brokered ceasefire agreement reached in October, under which Israeli forces were expected to remain within designated buffer zones.
According to Gaza health authorities, more than 1,100 Palestinians have been killed since the ceasefire began, including at least 260 children. The authorities also report that more than 73,000 Palestinians have been killed since the war started in October 2023. These figures have not been independently verified.
Local residents and humanitarian observers say the continued military operations have expanded beyond previously agreed areas, making movement increasingly difficult for civilians and worsening the humanitarian situation across the Gaza Strip.
