Troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA have rescued 27 kidnapped victims and foiled multiple abduction attempts during coordinated military operations across Sokoto and Zamfara states.
The operations, carried out between July 20 and 21, also led to the recovery of stolen livestock and motorcycles while disrupting the activities of armed groups operating in the North-West.
According to the Joint Task Force (North West), troops acting on credible intelligence engaged armed criminals in Kaura community, Shagari Local Government Area of Sokoto State. Following a fierce gun battle, the attackers fled, allowing security forces to rescue six kidnapped victims and recover rustled livestock and two motorcycles.
In another operation in Gandi, troops working alongside the Sokoto State Community Guard Corps rescued 10 victims who had escaped from captivity. The victims, including women and children, were found in the bush near Badanma community before being reunited with their families.
On July 21, soldiers from Combat Team 12 responded swiftly after gunmen blocked the Gummi–Sokoto highway in an attempt to abduct travelers. The troops repelled the attackers, rescued 11 more victims, and recovered another motorcycle.
Military authorities praised the troops for their professionalism and urged residents to continue providing timely and credible information to support ongoing efforts to combat terrorism and banditry across the North-West.
