SEMA, NEMA Provide Relief Materials to 300 Displaced Households in Taraba

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), in collaboration with the Taraba State Emergency Management Agency (TSEMA), has distributed relief materials to at least 300 households displaced by recent crises in Takum Local Government Area of Taraba State.

The beneficiaries were drawn from Chanchangi, Yamma, Kufai Amadu, Mamie Market, Rubar, and Sufa communities.

Speaking during the distribution, NEMA's representative, Malut Hussain, conveyed the sympathy of the agency's Director-General, Zubaida Umar, to the affected families and reaffirmed the Federal Government's commitment to supporting victims of disasters and conflicts across Nigeria.

He urged beneficiaries to use the relief items responsibly and encouraged peaceful coexistence to prevent further violence.

Representing the Secretary of TSEMA, Dr. Echuseh Audu, the agency's Director of Administration, Sani Maisukwati, described the intervention as a reflection of the Federal Government's dedication to addressing humanitarian challenges. He also commended NEMA for its continued partnership with the Taraba State Government in assisting vulnerable communities.

The distributed items included bags of rice and maize, cartons of spaghetti, vegetable oil, tomato paste, seasoning cubes, iodised salt, guinea brocade, wax prints, and mats.

Some beneficiaries expressed appreciation to NEMA, TSEMA, and Governor Agbu Kefas for their continued support. They, however, appealed for increased security in their communities, saying they wished to return safely to their farms after repeated attacks.

One of the beneficiaries, Veronica Iortom, said the latest distribution marked the fourth time affected residents had received government assistance since attacks on their communities. She called on authorities to deploy more security personnel to restore peace and enable displaced families to resume their normal lives.
