Saudi-Funded Empowerment Programme Benefits 970 Vulnerable Nigerians in Kwara, FCT

The Kwara State Government has praised the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for supporting a livelihood empowerment programme aimed at improving the lives of 970 vulnerable Nigerians in Kwara State and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

The initiative, funded by the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre (KSrelief) and implemented by the Abubakar As-Siddiq Philanthropic Home (ASPH), provides motorcycles, tricycles, vocational training, entrepreneurship education and business support to selected beneficiaries.

Speaking during the distribution ceremony in Ilorin, Kwara State Deputy Governor Kayode Alabi described the programme as a major step toward reducing poverty, promoting self-reliance and creating sustainable economic opportunities.

He urged beneficiaries to use the motorcycles and tricycles responsibly to generate income, support their families and contribute to community development, while reaffirming the state's commitment to partnering with development organisations to improve residents' welfare.

Commissioner for Social Development Mariam Nna-Fatimah said the initiative focuses on long-term empowerment by equipping vulnerable people with practical skills and business knowledge rather than providing temporary assistance. She explained that beneficiaries were selected through referrals from care homes and outreach programmes targeting vulnerable individuals.

ASPH President AbdulRazzaq Salman said the programme also includes vocational training in tailoring, fashion design, catering, ICT, shoemaking, leatherworks, photography and videography. Participants will receive entrepreneurship training and starter packs to help them establish sustainable businesses after completing their training.

Salman noted that the beneficiaries were selected through a transparent screening process to ensure the support reached those most in need. He also thanked the Kwara State Government and the Federal Road Safety Corps for their support in implementing the programme and providing road safety training for recipients of motorcycles and tricycles.

The organisers said the initiative is designed to create lasting economic opportunities, restore dignity and help vulnerable Nigerians achieve financial independence.
