Russian and Ukrainian forces launched fresh attacks on each other on Sunday, leaving at least 10 people dead and dozens injured, officials from both sides said.
Ukrainian authorities reported that Russian missile and drone strikes killed six people across several regions, including a nine-year-old girl who died when a drone struck a supermarket in the northern city of Chernihiv. At least 25 others were injured in the attack.
Ukraine's Air Force said Russia fired seven ballistic missiles and 136 drones overnight, targeting Kyiv, Chernihiv, Kharkiv, and Zaporizhzhia. In Kharkiv, one person was killed and 16 others injured, while another person died in a glide bomb attack on Zaporizhzhia.
In the capital, Kyiv, missile strikes damaged residential buildings and sparked fires, injuring three people.
Meanwhile, Russian-installed officials said four civilians were killed in a Ukrainian drone strike on the occupied city of Horlivka in the Donetsk region. Russian authorities also reported that at least 12 people, including two children, were wounded in a separate Ukrainian drone attack on Belgorod near the border.
The latest violence comes amid stalled international efforts to end the war, which began with Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022. The United Nations says civilian casualties have risen sharply in 2026, with more than 1,300 civilians killed and nearly 8,000 injured in Ukraine during the first half of the year.
Both Russia and Ukraine continue to deny deliberately targeting civilians, despite repeated attacks causing significant civilian casualties and damage to infrastructure.
