The management of Kogi State Polytechnic has suspended six lecturers over allegations of unauthorized sale of handouts and textbooks, while another lecturer has been suspended over alleged sexual harassment as investigations continue into claims of sex-for-marks, cultism, and other misconduct within the institution.
The institution's Public Relations Officer, John Onimisi, disclosed the development in a statement issued on Sunday.
According to the statement, the six lecturers were suspended on July 22, 2026, for allegedly engaging in the unauthorized sale of academic materials, while a separate lecturer was placed on suspension over an allegation of sexual harassment.
The disciplinary action follows growing concerns over reports of sexual harassment, cult-related activities, and declining discipline on the Lokoja campus.
Sources within the institution alleged that some lecturers demanded sexual favors or money from female students in exchange for passing grades. They also claimed that cult groups had resumed secret meetings on campus despite previous efforts to eliminate such activities.
Additional allegations included the return of compulsory handout sales, weakened enforcement of the institution's dress code and student identity card policy, and intimidation of students who reported cases of sexual harassment.
Responding to the allegations, Onimisi said the institution's disciplinary committee had already begun a comprehensive investigation into the claims.
He assured students and the public that appropriate disciplinary action would be taken against anyone found culpable once the investigation is concluded, adding that the outcome would be made available to the media.
