Reps to Question Accountant-General Over Alleged Fake Agency Budget Scandal.

The House of Representatives Ad Hoc Committee investigating the alleged establishment of the Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council (PFIPC) is set to question the Accountant-General of the Federation, Shamseldeen Ogunjimi, as its probe enters the third week.

The committee is investigating how the PFIPC, which the Federal Government says is not a legally recognized agency, allegedly secured office space within the Federal Secretariat in Abuja and received more than ₦1.32 billion in the 2026 national budget.

Lawmakers are expected to seek clarification on how the agency obtained a government budget code, allowing it to appear in the Appropriation Act despite concerns over its legal status.

The investigation has already featured testimonies from key government officials, including the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, the Central Bank's Director of Banking Services, and the Director-General of the Budget Office. Their appearances focused on the administrative processes that enabled the agency to operate within the federal system.

The probe gained further attention after the arrest of Adeyemi Adeniyi, who allegedly posed as the PFIPC's Director-General. He reportedly claimed to have paid ₦400 million through an intermediary to secure his appointment, an allegation strongly denied by the Presidency and the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila.

Government officials have maintained that the PFIPC has no legal backing, raising questions about how it obtained office accommodation, official documentation, and budgetary allocations.

The committee is also expected to invite additional senior officials, including the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, the Inspector-General of Police, the Ministers of Foreign Affairs and Finance, and the Attorney-General of the Federation, as it seeks to determine whether administrative failures or misconduct enabled the agency's operations.

Lawmakers say the investigation is aimed at strengthening accountability, protecting public funds, and ensuring that anyone found responsible is held accountable under the law.
