The Nasarawa State Police Command has successfully foiled a kidnapping attempt and rescued four victims during a security operation in Andaha, Akwanga Local Government Area.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Ramhan Nansel, the operation took place at about 9:40 p.m. on July 21 after officers received a distress call reporting the activities of suspected kidnappers near Megona Filling Station along the Akwanga–Jos Road.
The Divisional Police Officer immediately led a team of operatives to the scene. On sighting the police, the armed suspects reportedly opened fire, prompting a gun battle. The officers responded with superior firepower, forcing the kidnappers to flee into the surrounding bush with injuries while abandoning the four victims, who were rescued unharmed.
During the operation, police also recovered several items believed to have been stolen from a nearby provision store.
Nasarawa State Commissioner of Police, CP Shetima Jauro Mohammed, praised the bravery and swift response of the officers, describing the rescue as another demonstration of the command's commitment to protecting lives and property.
He directed security operatives to intensify efforts to track down and arrest the fleeing suspects. The ongoing operation is being carried out in collaboration with the military, local vigilante groups, and hunters, with bush-combing operations continuing in the area.
The police urged residents to remain vigilant and continue providing timely and credible information to assist security agencies in the fight against crime.
