The Enugu State Police Command has seized 195 vehicles for violating vehicle registration and number plate regulations during a statewide enforcement operation.
According to the command's spokesperson, SP Daniel Ndukwe, the exercise was conducted under the supervision of the Commissioner of Police, Mamman Giwa, as part of the nationwide crackdown on unregistered vehicles and those operating with missing, covered, defaced, obscured, unauthorized, or improperly fixed number plates.
The police said the affected vehicles included those without valid registration, vehicles displaying only one number plate instead of the legally required two, and others with altered or concealed plates.
Authorities warned that all owners of the impounded vehicles would be prosecuted in accordance with the law.
Commissioner Giwa urged motorists to comply with all vehicle registration and number plate requirements, stressing that the enforcement exercise would continue across the state. He also directed officers to carry out their duties professionally, warning against extortion, harassment, or any form of misconduct.
The command explained that the operation follows the directive of the Inspector-General of Police, aimed at improving public safety and tackling the use of unregistered or improperly identified vehicles in criminal activities.
Police advised all motorists to regularize their vehicle documentation and ensure their number plates comply with legal requirements to avoid arrest and prosecution.
