The Nasarawa State Police Command has confirmed the abduction of three students of the Federal University of Lafia (FULafia) and says efforts are underway to rescue the remaining victims.
According to the police, the students were kidnapped on the night of Tuesday, July 7, 2026, from Living Seed Lodge, an off-campus student residence located in a bushy area on the outskirts of Lafia.
Police spokesperson, Superintendent Rahman Nansel, said the incident was reported by the university's Chief Security Officer, prompting the Commissioner of Police, Shetima Jauro Mohammed, to immediately deploy tactical teams, patrol officers, and other security personnel to the area.
The security operatives launched a coordinated search-and-rescue operation in the surrounding forest, leading to the successful rescue of one of the abducted students.
The police said intensive operations are ongoing to rescue the remaining two students safely and arrest those responsible for the kidnapping.
Commissioner Mohammed has directed all operational and intelligence units of the command to sustain the rescue mission until the remaining victims are freed unharmed. He also assured residents that the perpetrators would be brought to justice.
The police urged members of the public to remain calm, stay vigilant, and support security agencies by providing credible information that could aid the ongoing operation. Residents were also encouraged to promptly report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station.
