PCRC to Recruit 10,000 Volunteers to Strengthen School Security Across Nigeria

The Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC) has announced plans to recruit 10,000 volunteers nationwide to support the Federal Government's Safe Schools Initiative and improve security in schools across Nigeria.

Speaking in Abuja, PCRC National President Mogaji Olaniyan said the volunteers will work alongside the Nigeria Police Force, community leaders, and other security agencies to protect schools, particularly those in vulnerable and remote areas.

Olaniyan also disclosed that the committee will provide and install CCTV surveillance cameras in selected schools to help prevent criminal activities and improve emergency response.

According to him, the initiative was developed after consultations with Parent-Teacher Associations (PTAs) and community stakeholders, with the aim of making schools safer for students and teachers.

The Force Public Relations Officer and Secretary-General of the PCRC, CSP Anietie Inyedu, welcomed the initiative, describing it as timely amid rising attacks on schools by kidnappers and other criminal groups. He reaffirmed the Nigeria Police Force's commitment to supporting the programme under the leadership of the Inspector-General of Police.

The announcement comes as Nigeria continues efforts to strengthen security in educational institutions following years of school abductions, especially in parts of northern Nigeria. The Safe Schools Initiative is designed to enhance protection, improve emergency response, and restore public confidence in the country's education system.
