The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has rescued four residents who were abducted during a kidnapping attack in the Yellow House area of Mpape, Abuja, after a gun battle with suspected kidnappers in the Jikoko Hills.
Police confirmed that one resident lost his life during the attack, while another who sustained a gunshot wound is currently receiving treatment in hospital.
According to the FCT Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, the incident occurred at about 10:40 p.m. on Wednesday when armed kidnappers invaded the community and abducted four residents.
Following the distress call, the Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Sanusi, deployed operatives from the Anti-Kidnapping Unit, officers from the Katampe and Mpape Divisions, and personnel of the 24 Police Mobile Force Squadron to rescue the victims.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the attackers shot two residents before fleeing with the four hostages through the Jikoko Hills towards the Ushafa Forest.
One of the injured victims, identified as Mr. Babangida, was later confirmed dead, while the second victim is responding positively to medical treatment.
Police operatives tracked the kidnappers throughout the night and intercepted them in the early hours of Friday near Jikoko Hills. The suspects reportedly opened fire on the security team, leading to a fierce exchange of gunfire.
The police overpowered the kidnappers, forcing them to abandon the hostages and flee into the surrounding forest.
All four abducted victims were rescued unharmed and safely reunited with their families.
The FCT Police Command said efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspects and urged residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station or through the command's emergency lines.
