Uchechi Okwu-Kanu, wife of the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, has dismissed online reports claiming she filed for divorce from her husband.
In a statement shared on social media, she described the reports as false and urged the public to disregard them.
She said she had not initiated any divorce proceedings, stressing that the claims were fabricated and intended to mislead the public.
Okwu-Kanu also expressed concern over the spread of unverified stories about her family, saying such misinformation undermines responsible journalism. She advised the public to rely only on statements issued directly by her or her authorised representatives.
Nnamdi Kanu is currently serving a life sentence at the Sokoto Correctional Centre after being convicted in November 2025 by the Federal High Court in Abuja on seven terrorism-related charges. Justice James Omotosho sentenced him to life imprisonment on five counts, 20 years on one count, and five years on another, with all sentences ordered to run concurrently.
