Troops of Sector 3, Joint Task Force North East under Operation HADIN KAI have intercepted a suspected foreign courier allegedly transporting illicit drugs, alcoholic beverages, and other prohibited items to terrorists operating around the Lake Chad Islands in Borno State.
The suspect was arrested on Thursday, July 9, during a military operation along the Maiduguri–Monguno road while travelling toward Kwatan Doron Baga in Kukawa Local Government Area.
According to the military, the suspect, identified as Mrs. Rachael Samuel, a 48-year-old Chadian national from Chari-Baguirmi Province, was found transporting several banned substances believed to be intended for terrorist groups.
Items recovered include:
Seven compressed bundles of suspected cannabis weighing about 30 kilograms.
Two 10-litre containers of a dangerous chemical known locally as "Suck and Die."
One carton containing 48 bottles of dry gin.
Sixty-one bottles of herbal alcoholic drinks.
A mobile phone, two ATM cards, cash, and other personal belongings.
Military authorities said preliminary investigations indicate the items were destined for terrorist hideouts in the Lake Chad Islands, where insurgent groups are known to operate.
The suspect remains in military custody, while the recovered items have been secured for further investigation and prosecution by the appropriate authorities.
The military stated that the operation is part of ongoing efforts to disrupt terrorist supply networks, noting that extremist groups often rely on illicit drugs and intoxicants to stimulate fighters and support their operations.
Operation HADIN KAI reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining military pressure on terrorists and their collaborators and urged members of the public to continue providing credible information to security agencies to enhance security across the North-East.
