Nigerian Army Wins Africa's Top Counter-Terrorism Award.

The Nigerian Army has been recognised as Africa's Best National Army in Counter-Terrorism Operations for 2025 by African Security Watch in recognition of its achievements in combating terrorism and violent extremism across the continent.

The award was presented to the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, at the Army Headquarters in Abuja after it was received on the Army's behalf during the African Security Watch Awards Ceremony in Banjul, The Gambia.

According to African Security Watch, the recognition was based on the Nigerian Army's success in conducting coordinated joint operations, intelligence-led missions, civil-military cooperation, force development, and capacity building. The organisation noted that these efforts have significantly disrupted terrorist networks and strengthened security within Nigeria and the wider West African region.

Receiving the award, Lt. Gen. Shaibu described the honour as a tribute to the courage, professionalism, and sacrifices of Nigerian Army personnel serving across the country. He dedicated the award to officers and soldiers who lost their lives in the line of duty and praised their families for their unwavering support.

The Army Chief reaffirmed the military's commitment to improving intelligence-driven operations, strengthening collaboration with other security agencies, enhancing troop welfare, and expanding professional training.

He also pledged that the Nigerian Army would continue transforming into a more professional, adaptive, and combat-ready force capable of responding effectively to evolving security threats while contributing to regional peace and stability.

The recognition highlights the Nigerian Army's growing role in Africa's fight against terrorism and its continued efforts to promote peace and security across the continent.
