Nigeria Police Explains How to Apply for Police Character Certificate, Tinted Glass Permit

The Nigeria Police Force has released updated guidelines for Nigerians seeking to obtain a Police Character Certificate or a Tinted Glass Permit through its Police Specialised Services Automation Project (POSSAP) portal.

According to the police, applicants can complete most of the application process online before visiting a designated police command or formation for biometric capture.

For a Police Character Certificate, applicants are required to provide details including their identification type (National Identification Number, Bank Verification Number, or International Passport), identification number, full name, phone number, email address, gender, state of residence, local government area, residential address, and an optional alternative contact.

To apply for a Tinted Glass Permit, applicants must:

1. Select the tinted glass permit service.

2. Complete the online application form.

3. Review and submit the application.

4. Pay the required processing fee through the POSSAP portal.

The police emphasized that applicants must provide accurate information, as false details, forged documents, or fake biometric data will result in automatic rejection and could attract legal penalties.

Applicants residing in Nigeria are required to appear in person at their chosen police command or formation on their scheduled appointment date for biometric capture.

The Nigeria Police also stated that application fees are non-refundable and must be paid only through the official POSSAP portal. No additional payment is required at any police formation for biometric capture or collection of certificates or permits.

Processing and issuance of approved applications take a minimum of 72 hours.

Interested applicants can submit their applications through the official POSSAP portal.
