The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested a 55-year-old Lagos businessman, Onuigbo Ndubisi Chinedu, for allegedly attempting to export 3.3 kilograms of cocaine concealed inside cartons of food items destined for the United Kingdom.
According to the agency, the suspect, a clothing trader at Balogun Market on Lagos Island, was arrested after NDLEA operatives intercepted the illicit shipment at the export section of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos.
Investigations led to the initial arrest of three cargo agents and another suspect who delivered the consignment. NDLEA said further inquiries identified Chinedu as the alleged mastermind behind the drug trafficking operation.
In a separate operation, NDLEA officers arrested 31-year-old entrepreneur Emmanuella Chukwu-Edo after seizing 2.8kg of "Loud," a synthetic strain of cannabis, which arrived from the United States on a United Airlines flight.
The agency also announced the seizure of 2.24 million tablets of Tapentadol 250mg, valued at over ₦2.2 billion, from a shipment that arrived from India through Lagos airport. The interception followed intelligence gathered by NDLEA operatives.
At the Apapa Seaport in Lagos, officials uncovered 2,388.5kg of Canadian Loud concealed inside three vehicles in a shipping container, with an estimated street value exceeding ₦7.1 billion.
In Katsina State, NDLEA arrested two suspects allegedly found with military-grade ammunition during separate operations. The suspects and the recovered ammunition have been handed over to the appropriate security agency for further investigation.
Meanwhile, in Edo State, operatives raided a warehouse and recovered 1,286kg of cannabis along with 86kg of cannabis seeds. Two additional suspects were arrested with quantities of skunk during the operation.
NDLEA said the series of operations demonstrates its ongoing efforts to combat drug trafficking and related crimes across Nigeria.
