The Moroccan government has called for a comprehensive investigation into the death of Moroccan national Abderrahim Fakir, who died following his arrest by police in Bologna, Italy.
In a statement, Morocco's Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed deep concern over the incident and urged Italian authorities to provide a full explanation of the circumstances surrounding Fakir's death and ensure that anyone found responsible is held accountable.
According to Italian authorities, police responded to reports of a man behaving aggressively and damaging a vehicle in Bologna's Pilastro district on Sunday. Fakir later died after the police intervention.
The incident sparked anti-police demonstrations in Bologna, with clashes leaving dozens of police officers injured.
Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni has also called for a thorough investigation into the death while condemning the violence that followed during the protests.
Morocco says it is closely monitoring the case and expects a transparent investigation to establish the facts and deliver justice.
