The Lagos State Police Command has arrested 135 suspected cultists and recovered 26 firearms during coordinated raids on criminal hideouts across the state.
Police spokesperson SP Abimbola Adebisi said the operation was carried out on the directive of the Commissioner of Police, CP Tijani Fatai, following credible intelligence about planned attacks linked to the annual 7/7 cult celebrations and initiation activities.
According to the police, the operation involved Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers, Tactical Commanders, and the Violent Crime Response Unit. Officers also recovered 16 dangerous weapons, including cutlasses, battle axes, daggers, and knives, as well as cult insignia, charms, suspected Indian hemp and other illicit drugs, 11 bottles of alcoholic beverages, and six mobile phones.
The command said the intelligence suggested rival cult groups were preparing violent attacks and other criminal activities in different parts of Lagos.
Police added that investigations are ongoing to identify and arrest other members of the criminal gangs, while the suspects already in custody will be charged to court after investigations are completed.
