At least eight Palestinians, including two children aged 10 and 6, were killed in separate Israeli air strikes and shooting incidents across the Gaza Strip on Wednesday, according to Palestinian health officials.
Medical sources said one person was killed near a school in Gaza City, while another strike on a tent sheltering displaced families in the al-Mawasi area of Khan Younis claimed four lives, including a 10-year-old child. A six-year-old boy was also reportedly killed by Israeli gunfire in Gaza City's Zeitoun neighbourhood, while another person died in a strike targeting a vehicle west of the city.
Twelve others were reported injured in the attacks. The Israeli military said it had targeted fighters in Gaza City but said it was unaware of civilian casualties. It did not immediately comment on the other reported incidents.
The latest violence comes despite a U.S.-brokered ceasefire agreed between Israel and Hamas in October 2025. While large-scale fighting has largely subsided, Israeli military operations in Gaza have continued.
Gaza's Health Ministry said more than 1,080 people have been killed and over 3,490 injured since the ceasefire began, alleging repeated violations of the truce. The ministry also said the overall death toll since the war began in October 2023 has risen to more than 73,000, with over 173,000 people wounded.
Meanwhile, humanitarian agencies continue to warn of worsening conditions in the enclave, citing the expansion of Israeli-controlled areas and growing public health concerns, including thousands of reported chickenpox cases in overcrowded displacement camps.
