NATO has pledged €70 billion ($80 billion) in military assistance, training, and equipment for Ukraine in 2026, reaffirming its commitment to helping Kyiv defend its sovereignty against Russia.
The announcement came at the conclusion of the two-day NATO summit in Ankara, Türkiye, where leaders of the alliance's 32 member states endorsed continued long-term support for Ukraine. The alliance also expressed its intention to maintain similar levels of assistance in 2027.
During the summit, US President Donald Trump struck a more conciliatory tone in his meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, saying progress had been made toward a possible peace agreement despite ongoing challenges.
Trump also announced that the United States would help Ukraine develop the capability to manufacture Patriot missile systems by providing technical support and production guidance.
Zelenskyy welcomed the continued American backing, thanked NATO allies for their support, and said Ukraine remains committed to achieving peace while strengthening its defence capabilities.
On the sidelines of the summit, Zelenskyy held several bilateral meetings with European and international leaders, securing additional defence and drone cooperation agreements with several partner countries.
Despite the diplomatic efforts, fighting continued on the ground, with fresh Russian missile strikes reported in Kyiv and other parts of Ukraine, causing casualties and renewed calls for stronger air defence systems. Meanwhile, Ukrainian forces carried out drone attacks targeting Russian energy infrastructure.
