Kebbi to Sponsor Mass Wedding for 300 Couples, Gives ₦250,000 Dowry to Each Groom

The Kebbi State Government has announced plans to sponsor a mass wedding for 300 couples as part of its ongoing social welfare programme.

Chairman of the State Mass Wedding Committee, Alhaji Suleiman Muhammad Argungu, revealed the details while addressing journalists in Birnin Kebbi on Tuesday.

According to him, the beneficiaries were selected from all 21 local government areas and 225 wards across the state after undergoing a screening process. He noted that the initiative, now in its third edition, is being organised in collaboration with the NANAS Foundation, founded by the wife of Governor Nasir Idris.

Argungu said each groom will receive ₦250,000 to cover the Islamic marriage dowry, while all prospective couples will undergo compulsory medical examinations to assess their health status and compatibility before the ceremony.

He also disclosed that local government committees have been directed to confirm that every groom has a stable source of income to support his future family.

The mass wedding is scheduled to take place in Birnin Kebbi and will be attended by Governor Nasir Idris, Islamic scholars, government officials and other dignitaries.

In addition to the dowry, the NANAS Foundation will provide newly married couples with beds, mattresses, food items and other household essentials to help them begin married life.

Argungu added that a monitoring committee has been established to oversee the welfare of the couples after the wedding and ensure the proper use of the support provided by the government.
