Katsina Security Forces Kill Over 40 Bandits, Repel Major Attack.

Joint security operatives made up of local hunters and the Katsina State Community Watch Corps have repelled a large-scale bandit attack on Guga Village in Bakori Local Government Area, killing more than 40 suspected bandits and several senior commanders.

According to the Katsina State Government, over 200 heavily armed bandits, led by notorious kingpin Idi Abasu Aiki and supported by members of the Ado Aleru group from neighboring Zamfara State, launched the attack on Sunday evening in what officials described as a reprisal assault.

The government said prior intelligence enabled security forces to respond swiftly, leading to an intense gun battle that forced the attackers to retreat with heavy casualties. Officials added that follow-up intelligence confirmed the deaths of about eight senior bandit commanders, while Idi Abasu Aiki is believed to have sustained life-threatening gunshot wounds.

Authorities said the attackers had planned to drive out local hunters and Community Watch Corps members before launching coordinated attacks on Bakori town and surrounding communities.

Security personnel have since begun clearance operations to recover abandoned weapons and other items left behind by the fleeing bandits, while surveillance has been intensified to prevent further attacks.

The state government also confirmed the deaths of five local hunters, who were reportedly ambushed while away from the frontline during the operation. It extended condolences to their families and praised their sacrifice in defending their communities.

Officials assured residents that normalcy has been restored and reaffirmed the government's commitment to strengthening collaborative security efforts to protect lives and property across Katsina State.
