A senior finance commander of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) has surrendered to troops of Operation Hadin Kai in Borno State, the Nigerian Army has announced.
The suspect reportedly surrendered on July 25, 2026, along the Ladari–Jegarawa–Tunokalia route on the Gamboru–Wulgo road, accompanied by two male children.
According to the Army, the individual served as the chief finance operative of an ISWAP enclave in Jubillaram, where he managed the group's financial operations and logistics.
Military authorities said the surrender followed sustained ground and air offensives against terrorist hideouts across the North-East, which have increased pressure on insurgent groups. They added that about 46 terrorists and their family members have voluntarily surrendered in recent days.
Items recovered from the surrendered commander include an AK-47 rifle, four magazines, 101 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition, a motorcycle, and ₦40,000 in cash.
The Army said the suspect is undergoing interrogation and profiling to obtain intelligence that could assist ongoing counterterrorism operations.
Military officials described the surrender as a significant blow to ISWAP, saying it reflects the weakening of the group's leadership, operational strength, and support network.
Operation Hadin Kai reaffirmed its commitment to restoring peace and security in the North-East, while urging remaining insurgents to surrender and take advantage of the Federal Government's non-military rehabilitation initiatives. The Army also encouraged members of the public to continue providing credible information to support security operations.
