Israeli police arrested nine people during a protest in Tel Aviv on Saturday as hundreds of demonstrators rallied against settler violence and Israel's military rule in the occupied West Bank.
The demonstration, held on Kaplan Street and organized by the left-wing Hadash party and allied groups, drew more than 200 participants, according to the protest group Mothers Against Violence. Organizers accused police of using excessive force while dispersing protesters.
Police said the gathering was unauthorized and claimed demonstrators disrupted public order by blocking roads, leading to the arrests.
The protest followed a deadly confrontation a day earlier in the West Bank town of Tal, near Nablus, where four Palestinians and two Israelis were killed during clashes involving Israeli settlers and local residents.
In response to the violence, Israeli authorities launched a large-scale military operation across parts of the occupied West Bank. Palestinian officials said dozens of residents were arrested during raids on homes in Tal, describing the operation as collective punishment.
Rights groups and analysts say the latest escalation has intensified concerns over growing settler violence and rising tensions in the occupied territory since the Gaza war began in October 2023.
