Kuwait has accused Iran of carrying out another attack on one of its power and water desalination plants, marking the second such strike in two days as tensions continue to rise across the Middle East.
According to Kuwait's Ministry of Electricity and Water, the latest attack triggered a fire at one of the facility's components, forcing several power generation units to shut down. The ministry said emergency teams were deployed to contain the blaze and assess the damage.
Kuwait's fire service also reported that Iranian attacks ignited fires at two separate locations, leaving several firefighters and a worker injured.
The escalating security situation has disrupted air travel, with Kuwait's national airline announcing the rescheduling of most flights after rocket and drone attacks led to the temporary suspension of operations at Kuwait International Airport.
Meanwhile, neighboring Bahrain said its air defense systems intercepted and destroyed multiple Iranian drones and missiles targeting the country. Authorities in Manama activated air-raid sirens several times and urged residents to seek shelter.
Iran's military claimed responsibility for the attacks, stating that it targeted the US-operated Sheikh Isa Air Base in Bahrain. Iranian state media reported that aircraft shelters, fuel storage facilities, and connecting bridges linked to the base were among the intended targets, describing the operation as retaliation for recent US military strikes.
The latest developments signal a further escalation in the regional conflict, raising concerns over the security of critical infrastructure and the potential for broader instability across the Gulf region.
