Iran's Oil Ministry has announced that the country generated $18 billion from oil sales during its conflict with the United States and the subsequent ceasefire period.
According to an official statement released on Saturday, Iran earned $11.5 billion from oil exports during the war and an additional $6.5 billion while the ceasefire was in effect before it collapsed earlier this month.
The ministry said the revenue accounted for more than 60 percent of the oil income projected in the country's annual budget, despite the ongoing crisis.
The announcement contrasts with earlier remarks by Iran's Parliament Speaker and chief negotiator, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, who stated in late June that Iran had been unable to export oil due to a U.S. blockade of its ports.
The conflict began after U.S. and Israeli strikes on Iran on February 28, prompting Tehran to retaliate against U.S. allies in the region. A ceasefire reached in April temporarily reduced hostilities, but fighting resumed earlier this month as both sides continued to clash over control of the strategically important Strait of Hormuz.
