House of Reps Erupts in Heated Debate Over Tinubu Summons

A heated debate erupted in the House of Representatives on Wednesday after lawmakers clashed over a motion seeking to invite President Bola Tinubu to explain the alleged delay in funding constituency projects.

The motion, sponsored by lawmaker Alex Mascot Ikwechegh (LP, Abia), urged the President to appear before the House over the continued non-release of funds for constituency projects nationwide. Another legislator also proposed suspending plenary for one week until the matter was addressed.

The proposal sparked sharp disagreements among lawmakers. Yusuf Gagdi (APC, Plateau) opposed the motion, arguing that constituency projects are implemented and funded through relevant ministries, departments, and agencies, not directly by the President.

The disagreement led to shouting and disorder in the chamber before Speaker Tajudeen Abbas intervened. He directed lawmakers to vote on the issue but ruled the proposal to summon President Tinubu out of order, saying it was not part of the original motion presented before the House.
