At least three people have died and hundreds of residents have been displaced after torrential rainfall and strong winds battered central and southern Chile.
Chilean authorities said the Biobio region was among the hardest-hit areas, with widespread flooding forcing evacuations and causing significant damage to homes and infrastructure.
President Jose Antonio Kast travelled to the affected region on Friday to assess the situation and oversee the government's emergency response. He urged residents to remain cautious as more heavy rainfall is forecast.
According to Chile's disaster management agency (SENAPRED), 466 people are staying in emergency shelters, while another 158 remain isolated by floodwaters, particularly in the Coquimbo region. Seven people were also reported injured.
Officials ordered evacuations in vulnerable communities, including the Campamento Ribera del Rio area near Talagante, due to rising river levels.
The severe weather has disrupted daily life across the country, with schools closed in several areas and state-owned mining company Codelco suspending surface operations at its Andina mine. Around 257,000 households remain without electricity, mainly in southern Chile.
The victims include a road maintenance worker killed while clearing debris in Negrete, a resident who fell from a roof while carrying out repairs in Temuco, and another person who died from electrocution in Santiago.
The government has pledged continued support for affected communities as emergency crews work to restore essential services and assist displaced families.
