Four Killed in Fresh Russian Strikes as Ukraine, Russia Exchange Overnight Drone Attacks

At least four people were killed and 10 others injured in fresh Russian attacks on Ukraine on Friday, just a day after Kyiv suffered its deadliest aerial assault of the year, Ukrainian officials said.

In Ukraine's northeastern Sumy region, a Russian drone struck a residential apartment building, killing two women, an elderly man and a toddler, while three others were injured, according to regional authorities.

In a separate missile strike on Kryvyi Rih, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy's hometown, seven people were wounded. Local officials said several apartment buildings, a school, shops, garages, vehicles and other civilian infrastructure were damaged.

The latest attacks followed Russia's massive overnight bombardment of Kyiv, where the death toll has risen to at least 30. A day of mourning is being observed in the Ukrainian capital, while UN Secretary-General António Guterres condemned the attacks and renewed calls for an immediate ceasefire.

Ukraine's air force said it intercepted 476 of 496 drones and 48 of 74 missiles launched by Russia during the latest assault.

Meanwhile, Russia reported that at least five people were killed in overnight Ukrainian drone attacks targeting border regions and Russian-controlled areas of southern Ukraine. Russian authorities said industrial facilities in Belgorod and Smolensk were damaged, while the Defence Ministry claimed its forces shot down 155 Ukrainian drones.

Russia also announced that its troops had captured the village of Oleksandrivka in Ukraine's Dnipropetrovsk region, a claim that has not been independently verified.
