The Federal Government has officially renamed the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway as the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu Coastal Highway in recognition of President Bola Tinubu's vision for the landmark infrastructure project.
Minister of Works, David Umahi, announced the decision during a media briefing in Abuja on Thursday, explaining that the Ministry of Works approved the new name after consultations with its leadership.
Umahi said President Tinubu first conceived the idea of the coastal highway more than two decades ago while serving as Governor of Lagos State, describing the project as the fulfilment of a long-held vision.
The minister also revealed that President Tinubu has approved a 400-kilometre extension of the Fourth Legacy Highway, increasing its total length to 1,100 kilometres. The expanded road will now extend into Taraba State, linking more parts of the country.
In addition, the President approved the dualisation of another 400 kilometres of the East-West Road, the reconstruction of sections of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway using reinforced concrete pavement, the completion of the long-abandoned Ibi Bridge in Taraba State, and the construction of the 5.76-kilometre Lao Bridge.
According to Umahi, the projects are part of the Federal Government's broader plan to strengthen road connectivity, boost economic growth, and modernise Nigeria's transportation infrastructure.
