FCT Police Commissioner Orders Trial of Four Officers Accused of Extorting ICPC Chairman

The Commissioner of Police for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Ahmed Sanusi, has ordered the orderly room trial of four police officers accused of abandoning their duty posts and extorting ₦52,000 from the Chairman of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), Dr. Musa Adamu Aliyu (SAN).

According to a statement issued by the FCT Police Command spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, the incident occurred on July 11, 2026, when the officers allegedly left their assigned duty posts and carried out an unauthorized traffic enforcement operation at Banex Plaza Junction, Wuse II, Abuja.

The officers identified are ASP Clement Ehigala, ASP Sunday Okpe, Inspector Samuel Onoja, and Sergeant Yakubu Emmanuel.

Police said the officers stopped a motorist over an alleged traffic violation and extorted ₦52,000 from him. The victim was later identified as the ICPC Chairman, Dr. Musa Adamu Aliyu.

Following a complaint, CP Sanusi ordered the immediate arrest of the officers and directed that they face disciplinary proceedings for abandoning their official duties, conducting an unauthorized traffic operation, and allegedly engaging in extortion.

The FCT Police Command stated that disciplinary proceedings have commenced in line with police regulations, reaffirming its commitment to professionalism, accountability, and zero tolerance for misconduct.

The development follows the earlier arrest of the officers, with the police commissioner describing them as "thieves" who had no business wearing the police uniform. He also vowed that any officer found guilty would face severe disciplinary action, including possible dismissal.
