Eight people have been killed and 16 others injured following armed clashes in the northern Sudanese city of Al Dabbah, according to the Sudan Doctors Network.
The violence erupted on Tuesday evening at the city's main market, where rival local groups exchanged gunfire. The medical network did not identify the factions involved or disclose what sparked the confrontation.
However, local Sudanese media, citing the Al Dabbah Security Committee, reported that the clashes involved groups allegedly linked to drug trafficking.
The Sudan Doctors Network expressed concern over the growing spread of weapons and increasing lawlessness in the city. It urged Sudanese authorities to conduct an immediate investigation and ensure those responsible are brought to justice.
No official statement has yet been issued by the Sudanese government regarding the incident or the identities of those involved.
Sudan has remained embroiled in conflict since April 2023, when fighting broke out between the Sudanese Armed Forces and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) over plans to integrate the paramilitary group into the national military.
The prolonged conflict has created one of the world's worst humanitarian crises, leaving tens of thousands dead and forcing millions of people to flee their homes.
