The children of Africa’s richest man, Aliko Dangote, have expressed support for his plan to donate one-third of his estimated $36.5 billion fortune to charitable causes, signaling a major step in the billionaire’s long-term succession and philanthropy strategy.
Speaking in an interview with Bloomberg, Dangote’s daughter, Halima Dangote, said the family fully supports the initiative, which would see more than $12 billion directed toward humanitarian and development projects. If implemented, it would rank among the largest charitable commitments ever made by an African billionaire.
The announcement comes as the Dangote Group continues to strengthen its succession plans by expanding the leadership roles of Dangote’s three daughters—Halima, Fatima, and Mariya—across the company’s key operations.
Halima oversees the group’s Dubai and London offices, Fatima plays a leading commercial role in the energy business, while Mariya leads commercial strategy for the food and cement divisions.
Aliko Dangote, who will turn 70 next year, has consistently emphasized that he wants his wealth to create lasting social impact. Through the Aliko Dangote Foundation, established in 1994 with an endowment of $1.25 billion, he has supported projects in healthcare, education, nutrition, disaster relief, and poverty reduction across Nigeria and other African countries.
The foundation has partnered with governments and international organizations on vaccine programs, school feeding initiatives, maternal and child healthcare, and emergency humanitarian assistance.
The public endorsement from Dangote’s heirs also highlights the family’s united approach to leadership transition as the conglomerate prepares for future listings of its refinery and fertilizer businesses while pursuing its goal of growing into a $100 billion industrial empire by the end of the decade.
