Court Reserves Judgment in Suit Challenging Pantami's PDP Governorship Candidacy

A Federal High Court in Gombe has reserved judgment in a lawsuit challenging the emergence of Professor Isa Ali Ibrahim Pantami as the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate for Gombe State.

At the resumed hearing, counsel for the PDP urged the court to strike out the suit, arguing that it was incompetent under Section 115 of the Evidence Act. Pantami's lawyer also asked the court to dismiss the case, maintaining that the former minister resigned from the All Progressives Congress (APC) on May 19, 2026, before participating in the PDP governorship primary.

The plaintiff's counsel opposed the preliminary objections, insisting that the suit was valid and supported by affidavits, documentary evidence, and written submissions. He asked the court to dismiss the objections filed by the defendants and allow the case to proceed on its merits.

After hearing arguments from all parties, Justice Amina Aliyu Mohammed reserved judgment and said the date for delivering the ruling would be communicated to the parties.
