Bandits Attack Zamfara Polytechnic Rector’s Home, Kill Guard, Abduct Residents

Armed bandits attacked the residence of the Rector of the Federal Polytechnic, Kaura Namoda, Zamfara State, Dr. Aminu Yusuf, in the early hours of Tuesday, killing his security guard and abducting several residents in separate attacks across the town.

According to local residents, the attackers arrived around 1:00 a.m. and targeted the rector's home. Dr. Yusuf reportedly escaped alongside his wife and daughter by climbing over the perimeter fence with the aid of a ladder. During the escape, the rector sustained a leg injury.

The security guard, identified as Isah Yankaba, was shot dead during the attack. He was later buried in his hometown according to Islamic rites.

After leaving the rector’s residence, the gunmen moved to the Hayin Baguso area, where they abducted the wife and daughter of a resident identified as Ibrahim. They also attempted to attack the home of a petroleum dealer, Salisu Azaria, but fled after security personnel responded.

The assailants later stormed the Low-Cost Housing area, where they abducted a university lecturer, Dr. Namadina Hamza.

As of the time of filing this report, the Zamfara State Police Command had not officially commented on the incident, as calls and text messages to the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Yazid Abubakar, went unanswered.

The latest attack adds to the growing security challenges facing communities in Zamfara State, where armed banditry and kidnappings continue to pose serious threats to residents.
