At least 16 people have been killed as Russia and Ukraine exchanged fresh waves of attacks, highlighting the continued escalation of the war now entering its fifth summer.
Russian-installed officials in the occupied Zaporizhzhia region said a Ukrainian strike on the seaside village of Kyrylivka killed eight people, including two children, and injured 14 others. Ukraine has not commented on the claim.
Meanwhile, Ukrainian authorities reported that a Russian drone attack on a Nova Poshta courier facility in the northeastern city of Sumy killed three drivers. President Volodymyr Zelensky described the incident as a "double-tap" drone strike, accusing Russia of deliberately targeting rescue efforts.
Additional casualties were reported in southern Ukraine, Russian border villages, and the Russian-occupied Kherson region, bringing the overall death toll to at least 16.
Ukraine also expanded its long-range drone campaign, targeting an oil refinery in Russia's Tyumen region in Siberia—more than 1,000 miles east of Moscow—and striking a military-related factory in Kirov for the second consecutive day. Kyiv said the factory produces components used in Russian weapons.
Russian officials said more than 300 Ukrainian drones were launched across the country, including attacks on regions far from the Ukrainian border. Authorities confirmed fires at industrial and commercial sites, while logistics company Wildberries temporarily suspended operations at a warehouse in Yekaterinburg after an evacuation.
The renewed attacks come as international efforts to broker a ceasefire remain stalled, with both Moscow and Kyiv continuing military operations and showing little sign of compromise. The United Nations has also warned that civilian casualties have risen sharply in recent months as the conflict intensifies.
