Apple has regained its position as the world's most valuable publicly traded company after its market valuation climbed to $4.88 trillion, surpassing AI chipmaker Nvidia, whose value fell 3.5% to $4.86 trillion.
The achievement marks Apple's return to the top spot for the first time in more than a year, as investor confidence grows in the company's artificial intelligence strategy ahead of its third-quarter earnings report scheduled for July 30.
Market analysts say investors are increasingly rewarding companies that can successfully turn AI technology into practical consumer experiences rather than those focused solely on developing AI infrastructure. Apple's recently upgraded Siri AI, which offers improved contextual understanding, real-time web access, and enhanced task capabilities, has strengthened confidence in the company's long-term AI ambitions.
Experts also believe Apple's vast ecosystem of iPhone users and access to personalized user data could give it a significant competitive edge in the rapidly evolving AI market.
The company's rise comes as CEO Tim Cook prepares to hand over leadership to John Ternus in September. Ternus has led Apple's hardware engineering division since 2021.
Meanwhile, Nvidia is facing growing competition in the semiconductor industry as rivals such as Micron and South Korea's SK Hynix continue to expand their presence.
Despite Apple's strong performance, the broader U.S. stock market traded lower, with the Nasdaq, S&P 500, and Dow Jones Industrial Average all posting declines during the trading session.
