A 47-year-old teacher, Mrs. Dim Ebere, who is accused of flogging a 12-year-old pupil to death in Anambra State, has voluntarily surrendered to the police after days of being sought by security authorities.
According to the Anambra State Police Command, the suspect reported herself at the Neni Police Station in Anaocha Local Government Area following a sustained manhunt carried out by the Safe School Protection Squad in collaboration with officers of the Neni Divisional Police Headquarters.
Police spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, said the suspect is currently in custody and will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Awka, where investigations into the incident will continue.
The police commended the cooperation of the Adazi-Ani community, traditional rulers, and other stakeholders whose support contributed to the suspect's surrender.
The Command assured the family of the deceased and the public that justice would be served, urging residents to remain calm, avoid taking the law into their own hands, and continue providing useful information to assist ongoing investigations.
The 12-year-old boy reportedly died after sustaining injuries allegedly inflicted during a flogging at a school in Adazi-Enu, Anaocha Local Government Area of Anambra State. The case has sparked public concern over the use of corporal punishment in schools.
